Couples Intensive Therapy in Maryland
3-Hour Couples Intensive
Dedicated time to focus on the work that matters most.
WHY AN INTENSIVE
Sometimes 50 or 90 minutes does not feel like enough.
You finally get underneath the surface of the argument - and it is time to stop.

When the conversation gets real, you need time to stay with it.
In a regular session, you may only begin to uncover what’s beneath an argument before it’s time to stop.
A Couples Intensive gives you three focused hours gives you room to keep going, hear each other more clearly, and work through a difficult moment together.
-
Get beneath the recurring argument
-
Stay with the conversation instead of rushing it
-
Practise a new response with guidance in the moment
Rather than trying to address everything in your relationship, we identify an important recurring pattern or issue and give it dedicated attention.

Time to:
Slow the conversation down instead of rushing toward the next
Notice what happens right before things go wrong.
Understand what each partner is experiencing when conflict begins.
Practiced a different response in the moment.
Create a plan for when the pattern shows up again.
The goal is not to solve your entire relationship in three hours. The goal is to understand an important pattern, interrupt it, and begin creating a different way forward.

When an Intensive May Not Be the Right Starting Point
A different service or level of care may be recommended when there are concerns such as:
-
Active intimate partner violence or significant safety concerns.
-
An acute mental health crisis requiring a higher level of care.
-
Active substance dependence requiring stabilization.
-
One partner participating primarily because of pressure or coercion.
-
Clinical needs that cannot appropriately be addressed through this format.
The consultation is used to determine what kind of support makes the most sense for your relationship.
HOW IT WORKS
Your Journey from consultation to action plan.
01
Complimentary Consultation
We begin with a 15-minute consultation to discuss what is happening, what you want to change, where both partners will be physically located, and whether an intensive appears clinically appropriate.
04
I Prepare for Your Relationship
I review your information before we meet so we enter the intensive with an initial understanding of your concerns.
02
Reserve Your Intensive
If appropriate, we select an available in-person date and location.
05
Your 3-Hour Intensive
We meet in person for three focused hours centered around the recurring issue or interaction pattern identified.
03
Complete Your Assessments
Both partners complete required intake paperwork and relationship assessments.
06
Leave With a Plan
We identify what you learned about your cycle, what to practice differently, and recommendations for next steps.

01
Pre-Intensive Assessment
Both partners complete intake information and relationship assessments so I can understand your concerns, relationship history, strengths, stressors, and the pattern bringing you in.
02
Clinical Review & Preparation
I review your information before the intensive and identify areas we may need to explore, allowing us to arrive with direction.
03
Your 3-Hour Couples Intensive
We slow the pattern down, explore what happens for each of you when the cycle begins, and practice a different way of having the difficult conversation together. A scheduled break is incorporated as clinically appropriate.
04
Your Relationship Action Plan
We identify the key pattern uncovered, strategies for recognizing it earlier, and specific next steps to practice after the intensive.
05
Recommendations for What Comes Next
We discuss clinically appropriate next steps, which may include continued couples therapy, individual treatment, another intensive, or another level of care.
